ABOUT CARLA SIKKEMA
About

I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in the treatment of clients across the lifespan. I believe the goal of mental health treatment is to treat the whole person using a multi-modal approach, of medications, psychotherapy, and spiritual awareness to achieve mental wellness. I believe successful treatment is achieved by partnering with my clients to develop mutually agreed upon goals for successful treatment. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master of Nursing Science and Leadership from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, UT. I obtained my Psychiatric Mental Health across the Lifespan Certification from Washburn University, in Topeka, KS. I have been blessed to work in various treatment settings including inpatient setting, outpatient treatment, community based organizations, Crisis Care, and Substance Use/Addiction management.
After 10+ years of caring for trauma and burn victims, I knew my calling was to help those impacted by mental illness and trauma. Many of the patients I cared for had underlying mental health challenges, ignored, unrecognized and/or untreated. I was able to heal the physical wounds, but the mental wounds remained untreated. I decided that God had placed a new calling on my life; a mission to serve those impacted by mental health illness. To provide hope, healing, and wellness.
